Hospice

This afternoon we registered Mom with a hospice agency called Vitas.

Mom, Dad, and I (well, mostly Dad and I) had a good meeting with their RN and went over all of their services and ways of support. They are very thorough and comprehensive in their direction of care.

Mom will be cared for in the home and will not be leaving unless it becomes necessary to do so.

Even though this was a difficult step, it was a necessary step and will provide Mom with the care she needs as she takes those final steps.

I hope that this also provides some comfort to my Dad as he deals with the inevitability of what is coming. I know it is giving me some small peace of mind knowing that Mom will be cared for in the best way possible, given the circumstances.

  1. Mike and all,
My thoughts and prayers are with you as you make these difficult decisions. We will continue to pray for peace and comfort for Norma and all of you. I appreciate you keeping us up to date during these trying times. Norma must be very proud of you, as well she should be. Your Dad is going to need lots of support in the days ahead and I know you will be there for him, also.
    Blessings,
    Nancy

  4. Mike, What a compassionate choice you have made for your whole family. I know Norma will be more comfortable in her own home as will your dad. Your mom so loves roses, fill the home with them. She loves old rock and roll and your uncle's country as well. Play those CD's. I'm so glad you have three wonderful children to make their grandmother laugh! Please, know these are just my suggestions which you have probably already thought about and are doing for your mom. Vainly perhaps, I want you to tell her over and over that I love her as do many, many people. To me she's my neighbor, cousin, chosen sister, and friend forever. Love to your dad as well, your wife and kids, and you, dear son Mike. Kathy (& Pat)

  5. I am so sorry to hear about this, Theresa told me yesterday!!! So sad that you had to make this decision for my brother and I have been there with my Mom then my Dad. They are very compassionate people at hospice and make you and your Dad so comfortable that she has been placed in their hands. They are someone you can call immediately for help whether it is just to talk or to tell what it going on. Our prayers are with you all!!!
