Mom had a pretty good day today. She started physical therapy and had a good session. The physical therapist was impressed with how good a shape Mom was in and Mom was able to do everything that she was asked to do. They did some exercises and walked around the floor.
Her mental state seems to be holding steady, or maybe slightly improving. Tonight, she told me that she was getting interested in watching TV again and we watched President Obama's speech about the Afghanistan plan. Mom was paying close attention and seemed very interested in what was being said.
She's concentrating hard on keeping herself organized while in the hospital room. She's already chewed out the staff (in a good natured way) about keeping the white board updated with the correct date. I think part of her disorientation comes from not having a good sense about what day or time of day it is. I can understand that. Not much changes inside that room.
The doctor is talking about possibly going home this weekend. We'll see how that goes.
I've told her about the blog here and she made me promise that I wouldn't write anything that she didn't want to read. I'm okay with that. Beth said that Mom just wants to control her press.

Hello Mike, thank you for the blog. This cuts down and eliminates the question in everyone's mind. What happened? I guess I should introduce myself, my name is Yoka Jones Armstrong, and I work with your Mom at ESC Region XI. Your Mom is a pillar for the center. Although she and I don't work closely together, she interviewed me for ISO, and made an unforgettable mark in my life. She is such a great woman, and I have petitioned "prayer warriors" to pray for her speedy recovery and your families strength. Thank you again for the updates and tell Norma her "smile" and great sense of humor is missed around the center. Yoka
ReplyDeleteTell Norma that all her friends at Region 10 send their wishes for a speedy recovery. Appreciated the comment about keeping the whiteboard updated. That's our Norma --- if you're gonna do something do it right and keep it updated! Thinking about you all. Barb Smith
ReplyDeleteThanks for linking me to this blog. Mom was very glad to know it's there and I emailed her the link too. She's printing it for grandma. Everything we can find out helps - I feel like we're out here in no man's land and can't do anything to help. Again, I'll be glad to come up there if/when you need me. I'll check this daily and keep Grandma and Mom up to date. I love you and tell Norma and James I love them too.
ReplyDeleteYour mom is one of the strongest, coolest, and funniest ladies I know. I find it "so Norma" that she "chewed them out" in her good natured way. I worked with your mom for 10 years at ESC 11 and she used that same tactic at work too!! She is a classy lady and someone that everyone enjoys being around. Our monthly birthday lunches just weren't the same when Norma wasn't there. She can keep a crowd laughing. Please let her know that Gerri Maglia is thinking about her and praying for her. If anyone can fight this, a West Texas gal like your mom can!!
ReplyDeleteHello Norma! Gosh, I miss getting to work with you and the crew at ESC Region XI. I am sorry to hear that you are in the hospital, but I know that the staff will do whatever it takes to get you back up on your motorcycle as quickly as they can! Take your medicine, follow doctor's orders, and know that I am thinking of you and praying for your speedy recovery! I love you!Linda Currier
ReplyDeleteHi Norma,
ReplyDeleteJust heard about you being in the hospital. You are in my thoughts and prayers that you will be "up and at 'em" very soon. You are one tough cookie and I know you will fight this with all your might.
Know that your TEA friends are on you side all the way and will keep you in our thoughts and prayers.
Thanks to Mike for making this blog available to us.
Love you,
Nancy
